Kathryn Swope is an Applied Artist at Northern Illinois University where she directs the University Band and teaches Brass Techniques. She is a regular substitute for the Illinois Symphony Orchestra in Springfield, IL and holds permanent positions with the Chicago Gargoyle Brass, the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra. Kathryn also maintains a large private studio at the Northern Illinois Community School of the Arts in Dekalb, IL. Kathryn hold degrees in Horn Performance from the University of Louisville (B.M./M.M.) and Northern Illinois University (Performance Certificate). In addition to playing horn, Kathryn recently completed a second Master’s degree in Wind Band Conducting at Northern Illinois University in 2013.
