Monteverdi Vespers Concert for Choir and Brass With the Oriana Singers and City Voices
Featuring music the Monteverdi “Vespro Della Beata Vergine” along with music of Heinrich Schütz, Benedetto Marcello, Carl Marie Widor, and Arvo Pärt.
Composed in 1610 when Monteverdi was working in Venice, the Vespers (evening prayers) is monumental in scale, and requires a choir large enough and skillful enough to cover up to ten vocal parts in some movements and split into separate choirs in others, while accompanying seven different soloists during the course of the piece. It is considered the most ambitious piece of choral music before J.S. Bach.
The audience will be invited to make a donation to help defray costs.
Suggested donation: $30 (adult), $20 (senior), $10 (student)
