John Grodrian, Trombone

John Grodrian is an active performer across the Midwest. As a member of Tromboteam!, Masterworks6, and Heartland Trombone Quartet, John has presented a wide variety of concerts and masterclasses throughout the United States. This year, he performed as a guest artist at both the 2014 International Trombone Festival and the 2014 Eastern Trombone Workshop. John has toured nationally with the Broadway productions of West Side Story, Disney’s Mary Poppins and Legally Blonde: The Musical. Equally at home in the orchestral genre, John has performed recently with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Anderson Symphony, and Orchestra Kentucky. In 2010, he recorded with the Dave Lisik Jazz Orchestra on the critically acclaimed album, Coming Through Slaughter, and can be heard on Mirari Brass Quintet’s debut album, Spires. Tromboteam!’s debut album, Last Lap, features newly commissioned music and is expected to be released later in 2014.
John earned his Master of Music degree in trombone performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he served as Graduate Assistant for the Trombone Area. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technological University and credits Peter Ellefson, Susan K. Smith, Joshua Hauser, and Tim Coffman as his private instructors.
