Michael Schraft, Percussion

As a timpanist, percussionist, and drummer, Michael has performed in a wide variety of locales and settings, ranging from two summers with the Lusation Summer Opera in Cottbus, Germany, to playing bossa nova with favela dwellers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A native to the Chicagoland area, he has sought out the advice and critique of the world’s leading timpanists, and is an active freelancer. Michael studied percussion with Dr. Rick Kurasz as a scholarship student at Western Illinois University, in addition to being influenced and aided by his father, who was also a timpanist. As timpanist and percussionist, he has appeared with the Quincy Symphony, Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Wheaton Symphony, and DuPage Symphony, in addition to regular appearances with the Wheaton Municipal Band. He has also toured and recorded with jazz and rock bands throughout the Midwest.
